GROWTH!

As part of our theme launch for 2025, Ché Williams, spoke on cultivating a growth mindset and how this mindset is part of Biblical principles.

This deviates from having a fixed mindset, which hinders positive growth in all aspects of life.

The Foundation for Growth

The Bible tells us that God has already given us everything we need for a godly life. Growth requires effort, but it is built upon the promises and divine nature of God. When we supplement our faith with qualities like knowledge, self-control, and endurance, we become more effective in our relationship with Christ.

“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life.
We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.
The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.”
2 Peter 1:3-9 NLT

Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset

A growth mindset sees challenges as opportunities, whereas a fi xed mindset avoids risks out of fear of failure. As believers, we are called to embrace struggles and trust that God is developing endurance in us. Every difficulty is an opportunity to strengthen our faith.

“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”
James 1:2-4 NLT

Growth Through Community

Growth is not just an individual pursuit; it happens in the context of community. As a church, we are called to build one another up, ensuring that each part of the body functions effectively. When we work together in unity, we help each other grow and experience the fullness of Christ.

“Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.”
Ephesians 4:15-16 NLT

Choosing to Grow

Growth is a choice. Even though external factors can infl uence our mindset, the decision to grow is ultimately ours. By embracing challenges, learning from failures, persevering, and staying connected to the body of Christ, we can step into the abundant life God has for us.
