The Danger of Not Consulting God
After the victories at Jericho and Ai, the Gibeonites deceived Israel into making a peace treaty. The Israelites examined the evidence presented to them but did not seek God's guidance, leading to unintended consequences. Yet, God’s grace remained evident, as He still worked through their misstep.
"So the Israelites examined their food, but they did not consult the Lord. Then Joshua made a peace treaty with them and guaranteed their safety, and the leaders of the community ratified their agreement with a binding oath."
Joshua 9:14-15

Trusting God in the Battle
When Gibeon was attacked, Joshua and his army responded. God reassured Joshua of victory and empowered Israel to defeat their enemies. In our spiritual battles, trusting God’s promises equips us with courage and strength.
"So Joshua and his entire army, including his best warriors, left Gilgal and set out for Gibeon. Do not be afraid of them, the Lord said to Joshua, for I have given you victory over them. Not a single one of them will be able to stand up to you."
Joshua 10:7-8 NLT
The Importance of Eradicating the Enemy
Joshua led his commanders to put their feet on the necks of the Amorite kings, symbolising victory and God’s dominion over the enemy. In our lives, spiritual battles require us to eradicate sin and other "squatters" that don’t belong. If we allow room for sin or doubt, it will grow and hinder our walk with God.
"When they brought them out, Joshua told the commanders of his army, 'Come and put your feet on the kings’ necks.' And they did as they were told. 'Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged,' Joshua told his men. 'Be strong and courageous, for the Lord is going to do this to all of your enemies.'"
Joshua 10:24-25 NLT

God Fights for His People
The chapter concludes with Joshua’s decisive victories, made possible because the Lord fought for Israel. This truth reminds us that God is always on the side of His people, equipping us to conquer spiritual battles and walk in His promises.
"Joshua conquered all these kings and their land in a single campaign, for the Lord, the God of Israel, was fighting for his people."
Joshua 10:42
